Three years after my son qualified as ‘Master of vessel’, he was appointed as Captain of an ocean-going cargo vessel. My wife and I organized a small party at my place and I felt a gift to our 28-year old son in appreciation of his achievement was overdue.

In fact, that is what caught my eye.

There were large, very luminous dots as hour markers on the dial. The edge of the dial had tachymeter markings. A unidirectional bezel set on top of the case. The flat highly transparent Sapphire crystal that sat on this 45mm wide dial made it easy to read the time. The two hands too are highly luminous and the watch is resistant to water up to depths of 100M water – though, I pray that my son never has to test it at that depths.

The Aries Gold Inspire Atlantic Chronograph Quartz G 7002 SBK-BU Men’s Watch has three sub-dials. The sub-dial on the right displayed the hour in 24-hour fashion while the sub-dial at the bottom counted up to 60-seconds. The one on the left counted the minutes – up to 60. There was also a date window uniquely located between the 4’Oclock and 5’Oclock positions. The watch has an analog display and was powered by quartz movement. The bracelet had a deployment clasp so at least there was no danger of it falling off.

Three reasons why I purchased this; first of course because the watch is very attractive and instantly catches the eye. Secondly, I felt it would look grand on my son’s wrist – something that would be appropriate to his position as captain of a ship. I also felt the chronograph might help him with his job. The third reason I bought this piece, was the price tag – SGD 304 which was a knock-down from its retail price of SGD 1,107/- The price was just too sweet to overlook.
